NEWS FLASH!!!!

The ACT Council of Cultural & Community Organisations (ACTCCCO) administers the Griffin Centre. ACTCCCO is sponsoring this competition. In sponsoring this competition the ACTCCCO is seeking to obtain a number of photographic art works for display in the Griffin Centre.

The competition is an acquisitive photography prize meaning that the winning entries become the property of the ACTCCCO and may be used for public display and may be reproduced for promotional purposes.  However the photographer retains copyright of the works.

Who are we and what do we do?

The Canberra Photographic Society aims to promote excellence in photography as a recreational pursuit and as a serious art form. The society's first meeting was held in October 1945.

We have two meeting nights each month. On the first Tuesday of each month, we run a friendly competition among members designed to improve skills.

The other meeting night each month [Feb-Nov] is devoted to workshops and lectures on a wide range of topics of interest.

People sometimes ask us if they qualify to join because they are beginners or because they only have a particular type of camera equipment. The Society is open to all photographers of any level from beginner to professional. You can use any type of still camera equipment be it a Box Brownie, basic point and shoot or the most expensive professional equipment. We don't cater for video enthusiasts.

It doesn't matter whether you shoot film or digital or what you use because the focus of our activities is sharing and discussion of the final image with other members. We take a keen interest in the processes used to produce images but we don't discriminate on the basis of those processes. For example images for our projected images competition [see below] can produced any way. They can be taken on film, digital or even a pinhole camera. Of course you will have to scan the film and pinhole images before projection.

We have a digital projector that we use for competitions, workshops and presentations. We closed our slide competition and replaced it with a projected image competition. Competitors may only enter digital projections. We hold at least one exhibition each year, sometimes more.

If you are interested in improving your photography but not sure whether CPS is for you, come along as a visitor for a couple of months to look at and participate in a range of activities. Some activities are restricted to members but many are open. Visitors are welcome anytime and there is no obligation to join.
